Information for Researchers

MITSINJO recognizes that conservation must be based on science. Knowledge of systematics and taxonomy are essential in order to know which and how many species we are to conserve. Ecological studies will elucidate the patterns and processes between and among those species. The species’ ecology is of course intricately linked with their biology and behavior. Yet, still very little is known about Madagascar’s plant and animal species.

In that perspective, we encourage scientists of all fields to contribute to enhancing our knowledge of the Forest Station and Torotorofotsy in order to enable us to make the right management decisions for this protected area.

Services we offer to researchers

MITSINJO is an ideal partner for your research thanks to our professional research guides and existing infrastructure. Most of its members have been involved in research programs and have been assisting scientists in the field.

Research experience and infrastructure

When working in Analamazaotra or Torotorofotsy, scientists collaborating with us will have the advantage to do their research without any administrative constraints, since these ecosystems are both managed by MITSINJO. The only requirement is that all researchers present their valid research permits to us. Accommodation can be provided on camp sites in the forest or in our researcher house in Andasibe village. Plans for the construction of a research laboratory in Analamazaotra and a research camp in Torotorofotsy are currently being implemented.

Research Fees

A small sum of 3,000 AR (approximately $1.50 USD or £1) per day is asked for maintaining trails and infrastructure within the Analamazaotra Forest Station. Work at the permanent research station in Torotorofotsy is negotiable, depending on use of facilities and services.
